A rigorous six-step process

Starting from a broad universe, we filter step by step down to a focused shortlist within the asset category you choose. Every fund considered is visible, with the reason it advanced or was cut at each stage.

Funds are assessed on 4 core criteria: cost (expense ratio, actual annual charge), performance (3-year compound return, Calmar ratio, Jensen's alpha), consistency (fund and manager tenure), and risk (Beta, Sharpe, Covariance, Volatility). Weightings can be tailored to your objectives and parameters

The shortlist stage 

A ranked list tells you which funds score highest. It doesn't tell you which one to pick. That's what the shortlist stage is for.

Once we have a focused set of candidates, we go into depth on what actually differentiates them - the things that don't show up in headline numbers and that no data platform will surface for you.

• Portfolio concentration Is the fund as diversified as it claims, or is it effectively a concentrated bet in disguise?
• Country allocation In Emerging Markets, for example, India vs. China exposure can define the outcome. We map it across every shortlisted fund.
• Top holdings comparison Where do the funds genuinely differ in their actual positions - and where do they converge more than you'd expect?
• Drawdown behaviour Not just the stat. What drove the drawdown, how did each fund respond, and what does that tell you about the manager?
• Fund house and manager knowledge Track record, team stability, mandate constraints, house views. The context behind the numbers.
